Sand City was incorporated in May 31, 1960, as a general law city and was converted to a charter city in April 1995.
The City operates with a council /administrator form of government. The City encompasses approximately 350 land acres and is located on the Monterey Peninsula, approximately 120 miles south of San Francisco. The City has 1˝ miles of coastal frontage along Monterey Bay and the City limits extend approximately 2 miles into the Bay.
The scenic Highway One freeway bisects the City length-ways from north to south. Sand City has a population of 261 full time residents at present. However, the City has a commercial base that provides jobs for 3,000-5,000 employees and attracts 40,000-50,000 shoppers daily to the City’s businesses.
